Common to all these analogies is that the divine act of creation is understood as a basic action directed outward from God toward the creation of the world. This is most clearly evident in the anthropomorphic analogies of human construction and human artistic creation. In the creation of a work of art for example the artist commonly does something to the canvas (external to him or her)—with his or her paintbrush and paint, and thereby creates the work of art.
